About Us

Welcome to Medical City Children’s Orthopedic and Spine Specialists, where children come first, and where our medical care professionals and patients work together to provide exceptional medical care.

We’re delighted that you’ve chosen to partner with us.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide you with the highest quality spine and orthopedic care. We understand that as orthopedic physicians, we are more than doctors – we are partners in your child’s health, and we strive to treat each and every patient as if they were our very own family.

Many families don’t understand the importance of using the expertise of a pediatric orthopedic specialist instead of an adult orthopedic physician. It is critical to always factor in how the growth plates are affected when treating a child. Pediatric orthopedic physicians are trained to incorporate this vulnerability when assessing fractures that could have long-term effects.

An orthopedic surgeon is a physician who specializes in diagnosis and surgical treatment of injuries and disorders involving the musculoskeletal system. In addition to treating trauma to the musculoskeletal system, these doctors also deal with sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors and congenital disorders.

Our Pediatric Orthopedic practice is known for developing innovative treatment and providing world-class care. We see a wide variety of conditions that affect the growing muscles, joints and bones of children and teenagers. Our team, led by Dr. Kishan, Dr. Hostin, and Dr. Wiesman, studies and treats problems affecting the growing bones, joints and muscles of children.

It’s important to choose orthopedic surgeons who specialize in children.

“Orthopedic surgeons who only focus on adults may not factor the need to pay close attention to growth plates when treating a child,” says Dr. Shyam Kishan. “Growth plates are the weakest areas of a child’s growing skeleton, which makes them extremely vulnerable to injuries and must be considered when diagnosing and recommending the right treatment.”

We Are Experts In Observing Children’s Growth

Our team is comprised of pediatric orthopedic surgeons, nurse practitioners and physician assistants specializing in pediatric orthopedics. Our doctors are board-certified in their specialties and provide surgical and non-surgical care for children and teenagers. We are experts in observing children’s growth and in recommending treatment. To help your child, we often use physical and rehabilitation therapies, braces, splints and casts. When surgery is needed, we are the experts in performing procedures to treat musculoskeletal problems.

In addition to physicians, our team includes highly trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants who specialize in musculoskeletal conditions. We work closely with our colleagues in other specialties, and our patients have full access to the wide variety of services provided by a major regional medical center.

Medical City Children’s Orthopedic and Spine Specialists consists of highly qualified and friendly staff who are here for all your child’s orthopedic needs. We strive to provide access of our pediatric orthopedic services to the families we are privileged to serve. That is why we have increased our access to exceptional orthopedic care by opening a new location in Arlington.

At each location, Arlington, Dallas, Frisco and McKinney, we have a Fracture Care Clinic that allows you to bring your child in for a fracture evaluation without an appointment or waiting for hours in the emergency room or urgent care facility.

“Elbow fractures in children are among the most common fractures we see. It is important to have a pediatric orthopedic physician determine the most effective treatment to assure that the fracture is healing properly in the now and particularly in the future as the child grows.” Kathryn Wiesman, MD
